While packing I found the following poem in my father’s things we brought home after he died:

Isn’t it strange the princes and kings,
And clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
And common people like you and me
Are builders for eternity?

Each given a bag of tools,
A shapless mass, a book of rules;
And each must make, ere life has flown,
A stumbling block or a steppingstone.
