While It Is Called Today

Motivational speakers play this game
With the terms today, tomorrow, yesterday.
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow never comes,
So live for today!!!!

We all know it’s not that easy.
Yesterday has shaped our today
And every thing demands we plan for tomorrow.
So we’re in conflict with the idea of living just for today.

But there is a place for yesterday, today and tomorrow.
The twelve step programs have found the ‘get through today’ place,
And it seems that has meaning in our spiritual lives:
It has to do with rebellion and ‘hardening’ our hearts.

While it is called Today,
If you hear His (God’s) voice,
And when you hear it,
Do not harden your hearts as in past rebellions.

Okay, I can understand that.
Say there is a recurring situation in my life
And every day I end up asking for forgiveness for my attitude.
And every day God softens my heart, until that situation is resolved.

That’s work.
But sustaining emotional health and spiritual peace is hard work.
However, the results are worth the
Lack of turmoil in my spiritual and emotional life.

But if, everyday the situation comes up,
I let my heart harden just a little bit,
And don’t attend to it,
It becomes like plaque building up.

Sometime down the road
I suddenly blow up,
And am left wondering ‘where did that come from?’
And rebellion has arrived.

While it is still called today,
Hear God’s voice
Avoid hardening of the heart and rebellion by daily practice.

Then while it is [still] called Today, if you would hear His voice and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion [in the desert, when the people provoked and irritated and embittered God against them]. Hebrews 3:13 (Amplified New Testament)
