For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?
Hebrews 2:2-3

I wonder about how easily we believe in:
People’s promises,
Unseen phenomena, wild and strange magic,
Scientific theory, mythical beings,
Our own dreams, abilities, and value.

And hard we work not to believe in:
The concept of God,
God as creator,
God as the essence and giver of love,
And the power of God.

The Old Testament records
Angels often brought the word of God to man,
And the people built a theology of Angels.
They easily accepted the angels’ message.
In fact, they were in danger of placing their belief in angels.

The writer reminds his readers
God fulfilled the message
He sent with the angels, and fulfilled the promises he made.
And while they believed in the messengers,
They worked hard at not following the messages’ creator.

And here we are,
Ready to accept angels among us,
Magic and para-normal activity,
The message of the spirits,
And trash anyone who dares express a living belief in God.

I know now, as then,
Part of the problem was, and is,
The way negatively extreme believers relate to others,
The rules above love attitudes of the past,
And the current, politically charged, if-you-don’t-think-like-me-you’re-wrong attitude.

But these are people, not God problems.
The problem is not always the belief,
But the structure we adopt to put into action.
It’s like we need to start again with Christ, set aside the peripherals,
And tell the story that first changed the world.

Angels, the messengers, are beautiful, inspirational, created creatures.
Even magic has its place.
Para-normal activity suggests something beyond.
But we miss the point when we believe in these things
And don’t look beyond them to the creator who gave them to us.
